Margielyn Didal is skating her way to the Olympics!

The 22-year-old Filipino skater earned a slot after competing at the World Skate Championships in Rome, Italy.

While she failed to make it to the finals, she qualified for the Olympics, which will be held in Tokyo, Japan this July.

Skate Pilipinas shared the news on Saturday, saying that a formal announcement would be made after the World Championship Finals.

On Instagram, Didal shared videos of her second run and practice session during the competition, where she competed against 26 other semifinalists led by some elite skateboarders like the world no. 12 Yumeka Oda, no. 3 Momiji Nishiya, and no. 8 Roos Zwetsloot.

“I didn’t make it to the finals but I’m stoked to be here and skate with the homies!” Didal said.

Didal is currently ranked no. 13 in the world.

She won the gold medal for women’s street in the 2018 Asian Games and the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. She was named Women’s Asia Skater of the Year for 2020. —JCB, GMA News
